Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation

The New York Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy Difference
At New York Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy, we integrate physical therapy into the daily lives of our patients, making it an active process both in our office as well as in their homes.

Our holistic approach encompasses non-surgical treatments to relieve pain, promote healing and prevent future injury coupled together with patient education, fitness, wellness and ergonomics (body mechanics) training. Physical therapy provides a roadmap to follow for optimal recovery.

Our expert therapists develop individualized plans that are age, sport, injury and lifestyle specific. This insures that each patient receives quality care that is targeted to shorten recovery time and optimize results. Our philosophy, customized treatment strategy and personalized attention are what distinguishes us from other physical therapy practices.

A Caring, “Hands on” Approach
No two patients or injuries are the same. Because we recognize that each person is unique and has their own pattern of movement, body alignment and postural habits, our therapy programs are individualized, intensive and hands-on.  We constantly strive to exceed our patients’ expectations of physical therapy.

We recruit the best physical therapists internationally and employ the most highly qualified and skilled professionals in their field. Our therapists are trained in-house and sent to intensive continuing education programs. Each of our therapists has a mastery level knowledge in manual therapy techniques and works one-one one with each patient to make sure that the goals of their treatment plan are met. Treatment begins with the therapist taking a thorough history to determine the root cause of pain. Each patient is then given a meaningful assessment and receives a comprehensive and personalized treatment program. Therapy programs are continually reassessed to monitor changes and improvements in a patient’s condition.

We make success simple by providing each patient with exercises they can do at home to supplement treatment in our office and giving them the tools they need to stay healthy. This caring approach creates a results-driven attitude that accelerates healing and promotes healthy living.

Customized Treatment Methods
After our team evaluates a patient’s injury, we develop a customized treatment program designed to increase strength, restore range of motion and alleviate pain. Treatment methods include:

  • Trigger point therapy and Myofascial Release
  • Muscle energy techniques
  • McKenzie exercise programs

Specialists in Myofascial Release Therapy
Our physical therapists are trained experts in Myofascial Release therapy. We use this highly specialized stretching technique to treat patients with soft tissue problems by facilitating the release of uneven tightness in injured fascia (a thin tissue that covers all the organs of the body). This stretching of the fascia is guided by feedback from our patients, which tells us how much pressure to apply for how long and the most effective direction of the stretch. Myofascial Release is used to balance muscle tension throughout the body, which can compress nerves and muscles, causing pain. Through this technique, we work to help each patient develop their own innate ability to correct their injury and eliminate future recurrences.

A Treatment for all Types of Injuries
There are numerous reasons why our patients seek physical therapy. We treat people from all walks of life, including weekend warriors, desk jockeys and fitness enthusiasts. Our expert team develops programs customized to address any of these common conditions:
  • Sports Injuries

Working with Your Doctor or Surgeon
Our team also works with other medical professionals to help patients recover from injury. If a patient is referred by a surgeon or physician, our therapists carefully follow the doctor’s recovery plan and keep them regularly updated on the patient’s progress. We are committed to developing customized programs that work for each patient’s lifestyle in order to restore them to optimal health.
