Clinical Pilates at NY Sports Medicine

Clinical PilatesNY Sports Medicine & Physical Therapy continues to be on the cutting-edge of innovative therapy and personal training with our Clinical Pilates program: a fusion of traditional Pilates exercises and established physical therapy concepts.

NY SportsMed & Physical Therapy is leading the industry in the use of Pilates as an advanced physical therapy treatment regime and personal training system.  Clinical Pilates can be used in conjunction with physical therapy or as a “stand alone" fitness program. Our practice utilizes the new Pilates Proformer™ in conjunction with traditional physical therapy to advance and quicken successful recovery.

We also work with many Pilates schools across the city to help their students with pain conditions return to health utilizing Pilates equipment. This approach ensures a cohesive recovery with similar ideals.

Offering one-on-one guidance, we devise an individually prescribed exercise  and rehabilitation program that is specific to each client’s needs. Clinical Pilates at NY Sports Medicine: For your body, for your life!

What Is Clinical Pilates?
  • The Clinical Pilates program was developed by physical therapists to pioneer the link between the original work of Joseph Pilates and recent spinal stability research.
  • Clinical Pilates is used by physical therapists as a treatment and diagnostic tool for injury, for performance enhancement and for the application of pathology- specific exercise programs.
  • It addresses core stabilization training and muscle efficiency through use of the specialized spring loaded Proformer™ equipment.
  • The focus is on muscle control rather than strength, with specific exercises designed to work muscle groups in patterns that are functional, therefore leading to a body that works more efficiently.
How Does Clinical Pilates Differ From Traditional Pilates?
  • Clinical Pilates is a research-based approach to Pilates. Unlike traditional Pilates, Clinical Pilates aims to fulfill established evidence-based criteria specific to each client. It focuses on static and dynamic stabilization exercises performed in a functional manner.
  • Before beginning Clinical Pilates at our clinic, an expertly trained physical therapist will take an initial assessment, including a full injury history. Over a series of sessions, a physical therapist will devise a personalized program specific to your needs and any injuries that you may have.
